How does it work?

A wooden air stone diffuses the air into very small air bubbles. While the air bubbles rise through the water they remove protein waste from the water. The waste foam is produced above the water level and then rises through the foam tube into the collection cup. In this way, waste particles and toxic compounds are totally removed from the aquarium, which is  the essential difference between this and other forms of biological filtration.

These skimmers are suitable for salt water aquariums up to 150 litres (33 imp gall) and model required depends on depth of water in the aquarium. The longer the skimmer's contact tube, the more efficient the unit will be.

How do they work?

The water enters the skimmer through the inflow holes into the reaction tube, and is led from the top to the bottom. A wooden air stone diffuses the air into very small air bubbles. While the air bubbles rise through the water they remove protein from the water. The waste foam is produced above the water level and then rises through the foam tube into the collection cup. In this way, waste particles and toxic compounds are totally removed from the aquarium. By an air-lift system the purified water is pumped back to the aquarium through the outflow tube.  Replacement wooden air diffusers are available for all the above units.

Deltec APF 600 (Saltwater Aquariums only)

The APF generates more air  accordingly handles a higher water throughput.
The cup and pipework on the APF are larger to cope with the extra waste output.

All APF skimmers are fitted with Aquabee pumps drawing in 450lts of air per hour.
The skimmer must be supplied with water either by gravity feed from the aquarium or via a separate pump.

Its new design gives it the flexibility to hang on almost any brand of aquarium or for it to be used inside or hanging on the outside of a sump.

There is a chamber built into the skimmer where media such as RowaPhos or carbon can be used in a sock or bag and there is even an optional media box available.

The performance is as you would expect from any Deltec skimmer, drawing in 300lts of air per hour for maximum waste removal.

The Deltec philosophy is that for every 1000 Ltrs of water in the aquarium that you require 400 - 500 Ltrs of air per hour to achieve efficient skimming.

This makes the MCE600 skimmer suitable for 700 Ltrs (155 gallons) for a normally stocked reef aquarium or 450 Ltrs (100 gallons) for a heavily stocked fish only system
