Ice traps harmful gases underneath the pond surface, and prevents oxygen from entering it, resulting in water quality problems that may harm fish. In addition, a lack of running water is the main reason for the loss of native birds during the winter, as they cannot wash themselves or drink. The TetraPond Winter Island not only warms an area of the pond to keep it ice-free, thereby allowing the exchange of gases, but it also offers a floating island upon which birds can land and access a pool of warmed water. The Winter Island comes with 7m of cable, and only uses a small amount of power due to its unique design. It can be used within the pond, or in a temporary water feature to provide a permanent bird bath that is resistant to freezing.
How it Works
The TetraPond Winter Island works by heating just a small area of water, thereby reducing its power consumption. It has been tested down to temperatures of -18C, and its robust design means that it will support birds of all sizes.
How to Use
Simply float the Winter Island on the surface of the pond to provide permanent protection from problems associated with ice. Read instructions carefully prior to installation.
